DEVON LONG HOUSE SITTING ROOM

CREATING WARMTH AND SPACE

This sitting room has low ceilings and a small window, typical of a Devon long house.

Maximising light was an essential consideration in the design of this room.

We chose light, warm neutrals for the walls and carpets, which are the base colours found in the furnishing fabrics. The carpet colour runs throughout the house, which creates continuity from one room to another, conveying a feeling of space. It is a practical 80/20 mix, providing a durable surface. We teamed these coordinating tapestry fabrics to create textural interest across the various sofas and chairs.

We used the Minster Knole sofa, available from our range of hand built furniture. The sweeping lower arms on this sofa makes it more comfortable to sit in and without the valance gives it a more airy feel.

The fireplace was opened out and revealed a bread over, the log burner was installed, restoring the original beauty of this spacious sitting room. A bold central rug enhances the brick work, beams and inviting ambience.

Soft LED’s were installed between the beams to maximise overhead lighting without taking up any ceiling space.
